Ghosts We Have Known

Ghosts We Have Known was inspired, in the main, by the many ghost stories submitted in Sue Clark’s monthly Writing Workshop in Martinez, California. Ms. Clark often distributes photographs from various media to inspire writers to go ‘outside their box.’ If you find yourself near Martinez on the third Saturday of any month, please join us at Martinez Adult Education, 600 F Street, Martinez, California, off Highway 4, (925) 228-3276; see www.martinez-ed.org and click on the most recent catalogue — look for “Clark” — Intermediate/Advanced Writing Workshop. The photographs included range from Ireland to Italy to London and California. They have been altered to reflect the ‘ghostliest’ feel we could muster. Our penchant for visual images is probably rooted in that old cliché, “One picture is worth a thousand words.” We love how visual images take each writer someplace completely different. Many thanks to Josh Cunningham, a self-described ‘technology tamer’ -- or as we like to put it, our ‘tech midwife’ -- for his expert help in birthing this book. Josh can always be found at Josh Can Help, http://www.joshcanhelp.com/. Special thanks to Linda Dunn for permission to use the photograph on page 27 and to Lori A. Cheung of thepetphotographer.com/ for permission to use the photograph on page 45.

Praise for Ghosts We Have Known:

“The roar of a ghostly Harley, a noose hanging from a peach tree, a playful poltergeist; there’s a lot of fun in Ghosts We Have Known.”

- George Jansen, author of The Fade-Away and The Jesse James Scrapbook; visit George at www.georgejansen.com.

“Have you seen a ghost? Here’s what happened when Sue Clark and Elana O’Loskey asked that question. Inside are ghostly tales as diverse and compelling as their writers. You’ll meet a ghost who heals, ghosts who lure or torment the living to join them, and a ghost who saves lives. You’ll read of ghosts from far away – and some who walk among the living. Settle in for a great short read – but leave the lights on!”

- Maria Rosales, S.F. Bay Area poet and author of Time To Fly.

“Ghosts here, ghosts there, ghosts everywhere in this fine collection of stories where the fog floats off the page, the wolves howl, the demon seed is in your head and in a child’s bed; triggers are pulled and rifles are drawn. I’m afraid you’ll just have to fight off the chills that await – if you dare.”

- Sally Hogarty, Editor, The Orinda News online edition.
